Accessibility
Updated September 16, 2026
Community Collective is meant to work for everyone, including people who use a screen reader, keyboard, voice control, magnification, or a small phone with a slow connection.
Our standard
We design and test against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. That includes readable contrast, visible keyboard focus, labels on every form field, touch targets at least 24 by 24 pixels, and pages that reflow at 320 pixels wide and at 200 percent zoom without sideways scrolling.
What we check
- Automated checks (axe, WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 A and AA rules) on every page at desktop and phone widths before each release.
- Keyboard-only use of search, filters, the Toolkit builder, saved collections and menus, with a visible focus indicator throughout.
- Status messages, such as “Added to your Toolkit”, are announced to screen readers without moving focus.
- Reduced-motion settings turn off animation.
- Printed and downloaded Toolkits are tagged documents with real text, not images.
Known limitations
- A full manual screen-reader review (VoiceOver on iOS, NVDA on Windows) is still in progress during the pilot.
- The school and ZIP suggestion list behaves differently across mobile browsers.
- Automatic Toolkit translations are not reviewed by a person. Every translated Toolkit says so and shows English underneath. Read in your language
Tell us about a problem
If something on this site is hard to use, please tell us which page and what happened through the Become a community partner form (put “Accessibility” in the message), and we will work on it. Please do not include anyone's personal information.
